President Biden designates his fifth national monument!

President Biden has designated the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni – Ancestral Footprints of the Grand Canyon National Monument in Arizona.

This National Monument designation honors a cultural heritage with incredible biodiversity, precious waters, and the vital economic engine of the Grand Canyon region.

For decades, Tribes have been calling for permanent protection of the approximately 1 million of acres of federal public lands outside the Grand Canyon National Park in order to protect it from uranium mining.

The newest National Monument is home to tremendous biological diversity, life-giving waters, deep canyons, and grasslands, as well as beloved recreation areas.

Let’s thank Biden for answering this call – and encourage him to continue honoring the often untold stories across the country using the Antiquities Act.
